Minecraft Math

Here is the first Mine Craft Math project created by a group of students in my classroom. In order to solve it, you must be on the correct iPad. We are working on creating projects that create their own worlds, so anyone can play on any machine. Skills being tested are those from Grade 5, Go Math, Unit 2.

Guinea Pig Wedding

On Wednesday, the Fantastic Ferrets had a wedding between the Guinea Pigs, Panda and Petunia. It was a very exciting time. Our mascot Lilly, was the flower girl. The chinchillas and the other pets were very excited. Everybody took pictures. The wedding was the most fun anybody in the classroom ever had. The 5 minute after party was not bad at all either. So now Petunia and Panda are lovely husband and wife.

Skyping

We have been skyping like crazy! Our goal is to skype with a classroom from each of the 50 states, plus at least one classroom from each continent. We are off to a great start. So far we have skyped with Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, California, and Canada! One of our skypes was with Carol Ann McGuire. She is a teacher from California and leader of Rock Our World. She taught us how to use Garage Band! The rest of our skypes were "Mystery Skypes." Through a series of yes and no questions we guess where each other is located. We are getting pretty good!!!!

First Week of School

On the first week of school, we chose our class name to be Mrs. Abernethy's Fantastic Ferrets. Then, Mrs. Abernethy had about five kids stay after school to make the room look the way they want it to look like. She says "that it's our classroom not hers."
We also skyped some classrooms in the United States. We skyped: Pennsylvania, Illinois, and North Carolina. The skypes were called "mystery skypes."
